A Sustainable Culture

A Sustainable CultureCulture week. An opportunity for an organization to get together to share, learn, and grow to build a deeper connection to the core mission and values. We had ours last week, and it was great. Two full days of employee-led sessions on everything from stress management, communication, conflict resolution, to personal finance. We celebrated and came together. Only, we didn’t.

You see, here at Distinguished Programs, sustainability is a core part of who we are. A core part of our culture. Which is why we decided to do a virtual culture week this year. Rather than fly across the country with a large carbon footprint to talk about sustainability, we stayed home to live it. And while nothing can replace the value of a face-to-face meeting, we also know that nothing can replace our planet’s depleted resources. And that shared belief made those video connections last week that much better.

It may seem odd for a national insurance program manager to take such a principled stance on the environment, but it really is a central tenet for us. Which is why members from the Distinguished leadership team founded the Association of Green Property Owners and Managers (AGPOM). AGPOM is a nonprofit organization to help property owners and managers realize the value of environmentally friendly pursuits while offering incentives that stimulate participation.

So we leave this culture week with a renewed sense of purpose. We leave with a reminder that, when it comes to sustainability, we should live the words we speak.
