The Underwriting Manager leads and inspires a team of Underwriters with the responsibility for the underwriting integrity, profitability and exceptional customer experience. By using data and thoughtful insight, it is required to demonstrate an advanced level of expertise for recommendations and implementation of changes to improve the business. The manager promotes teamwork and organizational success, while accepting accountability and ownership, celebrating successes.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage, mentor and coach Underwriters in technical and professional skills
  • Supervise the underwriting operations while providing guidance to a team of Underwriters
  • Administer and ensure compliance with underwriting guidelines, rating rules and insurance regulations
  • Work with Program Managers to strengthen and grow designated programs
  • Partner with Sales Executives and Program Managers to ensure fluid communication and alignment
  • Develop and maintain effective relationships with internal and external customers
  • Create, coordinate and participate in underwriting training
  • Underwrite as needed; risk selection, pricing and coverage assessment based on underwriting guidelines
  • Foster an environment conducive to continuous improvement
  • Solve for root cause problems and provide a resolution path
  • Recommend and implement changes to improve workflow, productivity, growth, profitability and quality
  • Monitor, manage and report on Service Level Agreement to key stakeholders
  • Participate and ensure quality control process along with internal and carrier audits
  • Obtain and understand market intel and trends

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Professional insurance designation(s) preferred
  • Insurance license per state requirements preferred
  • Minimum 7 years commercial insurance underwriting experience 
  • Minimum 3-5 years managing a team
  • Limited travel may be required
