Hi, my name is Nonie Tompkins, and I’m a Vice President and Underwriter of Fine Art and Collectibles at Distinguished Fine Art and Collectibles, a division of Distinguished Programs. I’m based out of Chicago, Illinois, and I’ve been working in fine art insurance for about five years now. I decided to work in fine art and collectibles insurance because I have my undergrad degree in art history, and coming out of college, tried a couple things and insurance turned out to be the perfect fit for me.
What’s a fun fact about you?
A fun fact about me is that this is the fifth state I have lived in, in the last six years. So, here’s hoping that there’s no more moves in my future.
What art movement do you most identify with?
I really enjoy the Post Office murals, the New Deal WPA movement, to put a lot of public art in the US. I did a stint in museum education and my master’s is in museum education, so I really enjoy just the idea of really accessible public art, art for everyone, and that movement really embodies that.
What’s something you collect?
I collect prints. You can see one behind me, actually. I took a printmaking class in college. It was very hard, but it’s really cool to know the process behind what I see. And, I try to buy local artists when I’m traveling or when I’m moving, so this one behind me is a local Chicago artist.
Do you have a pet?
I have a pet cat, I’m a cat person. His name is Tas, after the Tasmanian Devil, because he made a lot of trouble when he was young, and he’s about two years old.
