My name is Ashley Mehyo, and I’m Head of Claims at Distinguished Programs Fine Art & Collectibles. I’m based in New York City and have been in the fine art space for six years.
What do you enjoy most about working in the fine art industry?
The best part of working in this industry is preserving art, explaining meaningful perspectives, and inspiring creativity.
What’s the most unique thing you’ve been asked to insure?
The most unique thing I’ve been asked to insure is an artist’s hands, and the thought process behind that request was if the artist were to be injured, specifically their hands, and they were unable to produce new art, how would they be indemnified for their financial losses?
If you could have any superpower, what would it be and why?
If I could have any superpower, it would be the ability to control time. I would use it to go back in time and prevent a couple of art heists, and I’d also use it to get an extra hour of sleep every night.
What is your favorite piece of artwork?
My favorite piece of art is the one you see right behind me. This is Carlos Ramirez’s Honeysuckle. I really love this artist. He’s Mexican and based in California, and he has an awesome way of portraying diversity and culture through his paintbrush.
If you could have dinner with any celebrity or historical figure (past or present), who would it be and why?
If I could have dinner with any celebrity from the past, it would be Frank Sinatra. I love his music. I’ve always loved his music, and the fact that he’s from Hoboken, New Jersey resonates with me because Hudson County is also my former stomping ground.
