We’re not sure how you feel about dogs in hotels, but what do you think about making sure homeless dogs get to sleep on those comfy hotel pillows?
It’s not what it seems…it’s better! A Hilton hotel in West Chester, PA, recently adopted a protocol to donate its used hotel pillows to their local SPCA (Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals).
It’s triple win: Hotel guests enjoy brand-new pillows that are regularly replaced, landfills don’t get clogged up, and the neglected or mistreated pups awaiting adoption get the comfort of a pillow or two in their kennel while they wait.
Some animal shelters accept pillows and towels, others don’t, so it’s best to make a quick call to see if your local shelter would benefit from a donation (or 100).
With Earth Day approaching on April 22, and spring inching ever closer, it’s a good time to assess small but effective ways hotels can make a difference. While donating pillows to animal shelters is one way that will warm canines’ and guest’s hearts (put a sign up so guests are aware of your efforts), there are other places that could use the pillows, comforters, sheets, towels, and blankets that your hotel may be due to replace.
Check in with nearby homeless shelters or survival centers. They may be able to pass on your donations to those in need, whether it’s the homeless population, recent fire or other natural disaster victims, or to programs that help families in transition. All efforts are worth the small time it takes to make a donation happen.
